[i-vii]viii[ix]x-xii[xiii]xiv[xv-xvi]. [1]2-624. Complete with all ads and inserts. Forty inserted plates including the frontispiece and vignette title. Original green printed wrappers with cover design by Phiz.
Set collates complete per Hatton and Cleaver, and includes the rare Lett's Diaries ad in VIII with the 8 samples of the diaries and the actual fold-out ad). With the first issue misspelling of of "Lile" in part VIII. Part IX with slip and "Leila" ad both laid in. Back ad in part X!II is the 4 page variant 2a. Part XIII with an additional ad slip, same as slip found in part XII "Visit to the Exhibition."
Some minor soiling as usual. Plates generally clean, but some with expected offsetting and foxing. Text and ads generally quite fresh. Previous owner's signature on front wrapper of parts V and XVII. Spines with some near restoration and occasionally rebacking. Paty II without a backstrip. Part V with a one-inch closed tear to back wrapper, and the first page of the advertiser with a corner renewed, affecting some text. Part VII with page 7/8 of back ad, trimmed short at bottom margin, not affecting text. Part XII with small repair to top margin of back ad number 1, not affecting text. In a chemise and quarter green morocco slipcase. Overall very good, and set shows very well. One of the rarer Dickens in parts.
