First Harrison of Paris edition, one of 595 copies on Auvergne hand-made paper, this being number 64. Quarto (10 x 7 1/2 inches; 254 x 184 mm.). [10], 124, [3, contents], [3, blank] pp. With fifty intertextual drawings by Alexander Calder.
Original printed blue rag paper wrappers over boards. Chemised in a glossy red paper slipcase with original printed paper labels, and housed in a glossy red slip case also with printed paper label. Original printed cardboard "paper knife" laid in. Some light rubbing and wear to edges of slipcase and chemise. Otherwise a fine copy.
A lovely copy of this limited edition of Aesop's Fables, notably clean and bright, with wonderful illustrations by Alexander Calder.
"This is the fifth publication of Harrison of Paris. Designed by Monroe Wheeler, it has been printed in twelve-point French Round Face, with nine-point italics, by Aime Jourde, in Paris, in August, 1931.
