"It has been the aim of the Author in compiling and editing "The Industries of Los Angeles" to present the public with a concise and accurate work of the many natural advantages of the City's relation to trade, commerce and manufactures; at the same time, portraying a truthful representation of her honorable past, the great prosperity of her present condition, and a passing glimpse of the glorious future she is bound to enjoy. The theme is certainly a deserving one, and the Author sincerely trusts that his humble efforts may prove of some value to the many thousands, who are seeking homes and health in this beautiful land of sunshine and flowers, whose great praises have been sung in every land and by every tongue. Relying upon these merits, and on the sound judgment of the public for success, the work is committed to the press with these few words of explanation. Industrial Publishing Co., Jonas D. Samson, Manager." (From the Preface).
