A complete set of proofs for the First and Second series of Sketches by Boz by Charles Dickens. With eight plates for volume I, and 8 plates for volume II, ten plates for the second series and two additional plates that were not ever used in the book for a total of twenty-eight plates. All plates mounted and bound together in one quarto volume (11 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches; 290 x 213 mm).
Bound by Riviere in full tan straight-grain morocco. Boards triple-ruled in gilt, with floral corner devices. Spine with two black morocco spine labels, lettered in gilt, and five additional black leather strips affixed to spine and stamped in gilt. Board edges ruled in gilt and gilt dentelles. Blue endpapers. All edges gilt. Some minor rubbing to board edges and corners. Top and bottom of spine a bit rubbed also. Some offsetting from plates to blank facing pages. Overall very good.
