First edition. Two folio volumes (14 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches; 375 x 295 mm). With seventy-seven chromolithographic plates (including plate VXXVII bound in within the introduction) and four plain plates (including two portraits) by Alice Ellis, Edith Bull and W.G. Smith. All plates with tissue guards. With 160 pp introduction and multiple text pages for each plate.

Beautifully bound in publisher's deluxe full green morocco. Spines uniformly faded. Boards stamped and ruled in blind with gilt lettering and a gilt central device. The front gilt device is an emblem for the Woolhope Naturalist Field Club and the back gilt device is a grouping of apples. Spines stamped and lettered in gilt with fruit devices. Gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Some rubbing to spines and corners. A bit of minor scuffing to boards. Some very minor foxing, mainly to preliminary pages and tissue guards. Plates are very clean. Overall a near fine copy with beautiful color-plates.
