Bound without half-title or leaf of advertisements, but with the errata leaf. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Mary Wollstonecraft by Heath after Opie.
Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine stamped and lettered in gilt. Top edge dyed brown, others speckled red. Some minor chipping and cracking to spine. Corners bumped and rubbed. Previous owner's old ink signature on page [1] of text. Still a very good copy.
An excellent copy of the first edition of the first biography of Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797), author of the groundbreaking Vindication of the Rights of Woman (London, 1792), written by her husband and published within a few months of her death.
