Bound by H. Blackwell in publisher's three-quarter brown morocco over tan linen-covered boards. Boards double-ruled in gilt. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Some rubbing along board edges and spine extremities, however still a near fine copy. Housed in a matching three-quarter morocco clamshell.

Edward Sheriff Curtis published The North American Indian between 1907 and 1930 with the intent to record traditional Native American cultures. The work comprises twenty volumes of narrative text and photogravure images. During the production of this volume, Curtis's benefactor, J. Pierpont Morgan, passed away, for which a dedication was included at front. This ninth volume covers the Salishan Tribes of the Coast, the Chimakum and the Quilliute and the Willapa.
