Eight octavo volumes (8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches; 219 x 141 mm). With portrait frontispiece and two folding engraved plates in Volume I. Title-pages printed in red and black.
Bound by Wiseman in contemporary full vellum. Boards with gilt double-rule border and a tooled gilt border. Boards with gilt armorial central device. Spines decoratively stamped in gilt in compartments with red and brown morocco spine labels, lettered in gilt. Board edges gilt. Gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Brown silk page markers. Some toning, especially to plates. Some offsetting from frontisportrait to title-page of volume I. A bit of soiling to vellum, mainly along board edges. Volume II with some splitting to outer hinges but holding firm. Previous owner's armorial bookplate on front pastedown of each volume. Still, overall a very good set.
