Full Description:

[COOKERY] Manuscript Recipe Book. [England, n.d.c.a. 1807-1830].

Nineteenth-century manuscript cookbook. Small quarto (7 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches; 195 x 160 mm). With 69 pages filled with neat manuscript recipes in the same hand. A number of blank pages as well. A manuscript recipe tipped in on front pastedown. Front free endpaper with a photo of a castle and also an armorial plate of Simon Aris of the Inner Temple tipped in. Back pastedown with a newspaper clipping tipped in. A few portrait photographs laid in. This cookbook is probably British as the tipped in newspaper clipping is British.

Contemporary quarter tan calf over marbled boards. Hinges are cracked but holding. Spine is mostly lost. Boards a bit rubbed and bumped. A few light spots, but overall internally very clean, particularly for a cookbook. Overall a very good cookbook.

Comprises approximately 180 recipes such as "A Drest Crab, either hot or cold", "To make Angel Puddings", "Dutch Flummery", "Fairy Butter", "Floating Island", "To make Indian Pickle", "Small birds in Savory Jelly", "Thatched House Pie", "Purging Pills", "Receipt for a Cough", "Indelible Ink".

The date estimation comes from the watermark of the paper which reads "1807" and the final leaf with a recipe signed and dated "July 26th, 1830."
