An advertisement for this book was in the "Independent Newspaper" in Hawaii November 29th, 1879. It translates to: "A USEFUL BOOK. — A visitor named George Booser has begun preparations for a publication—a directory—that will detail the nature, status, and all other relevant information regarding the land and resources of Hawaii. It will list the occupations, residences, and names of individuals—both foreigners and Native Hawaiians—who are engaged in various trades. It will identify the locations of sugar plantations, rice farms, and other agricultural enterprises, along with their respective owners. It will also note the major types of businesses and their proprietors. Furthermore, it will describe the conditions of various districts throughout the country, as well as the activities conducted within them. In essence, this book serves as a comprehensive record of the lands being cultivated, the work being performed, and the status and identities of the people involved. This is a highly valuable work, and it will undoubtedly prove beneficial to those who consult this directory and its contents. The author intends to offer copies of this book for sale to those in Hawaii who are proficient in the English language. We wish him every success in this progressive and commendable undertaking."
